Frequently asked questions

What is Mangal Dosha?
Mangal Dosha (Manglik Dosha or Kuja Dosha) forms when Mars occupies the 1st, 2nd, 4th, 7th, 8th, or 12th house of a birth chart, counted from the Lagna or the Moon. Tradition links it to friction in married life, which is why it is checked before marriage.
Am I Manglik if Mars is in the 2nd house?
It depends on the school. South Indian tradition counts the 2nd house in the dosha list; many North Indian astrologers do not. This calculator shows the house so you can apply either convention, and flags the 2nd-house case explicitly.
Can Mangal Dosha be cancelled?
Yes, classical texts list many cancellations: Mars in its own signs (Aries, Scorpio), exalted in Capricorn, aspects from Jupiter, and more. The strongest neutraliser of all is marriage between two Manglik partners, which tradition treats as fully cancelling the dosha.
Do I need my exact birth time for a Manglik check?
Yes, more than for most calculators. The dosha is counted from the Lagna, which changes sign every two hours, so an error of even an hour can move Mars into or out of a dosha house. The Moon-based check is more forgiving.
Does Mangal Dosha mean my marriage will fail?
No. It is a traditional risk marker, not a prediction. Millions of Manglik people have happy marriages. Astrologers weigh it alongside the full chart, cancellations, and kundli matching before drawing any conclusion.
